The security commission met on Monday June 20th at the  Maison des Sports in Chamonix Mont-Blanc to ratify the definitive route for the 80km. Despite the capricious weather report the route was verified during the weekend by teams from the Clubs des Sports and helped by the EMHM.

The last changes to the race route :

– Access to the  tête de l’Arolette (2 333 m) is not possible due to a very long névé issuing from it. A little after the the Alpage (pastures) de Catogne  the trail-runners will take a right in the direction of the summit of the  Plan des Reines ski lift.

Snow will be present on the following sectors :

·         Tête de Bellachat/Brévent (2 525 m) /Planpraz : permanent snow.

·         The traverse Flégère/Tête au Vent  (2 110 m): residual névés .

·         Alpage(pasture) de Catogne/Summit  Plan des Reines ski-lift : residual névés.

·         The traverse Montenvers/Blaitière (2 100 m) : residual névés.

These sectors do not present objective danger and will be verified before the start on Friday morning. This modified route, due to serious snow cover, makes a total distance of around 81km with 6 000m of ascent. In relation to the weather conditions, the definitive route will be validated on Thursday morning.

Same finishing points for the KMV, 23 km and the 42 km
The snow and the work on the new  Parsa chair-lift has meant that the organisation has had to move the finish of the 23 km and 42 km from the top of Planpraz  plateau to the  top of the new cable-car. The finish will be the same as that of the  Vertical Kilometre which will also be moved to the same place. To maintain the  1 000m ascent, a surveyor has measured the finish to be at 2 052 m. The KMV will therefore have a «  fictional » start in the  place du Triangle de l’Amitié and the timing will be begun at the junction of the  jardins de Fujiyoshida and the  route de la Mollard at 1 052 m !

When Michel Lanne, member of the  du PGHM, discovered trail-running, this gave him a different vision of mountaineering. When one loves mountains, one looks for a way of always moving faster, to enlarge the experience. There has always been a natural spirit of solidarity within the mountain community, a willingness to help those in danger. Over time, and with the evolution of sports and mountain sports, the mountain rescue services in the Alps has changed from a local activity, based on voluntary participation, to an official institution led by the Gendarmerie. The PGHM has saved lives and dealt with accidents in the mountains since 1958.
