Dynafit – Radical 2 Earns TÜV Quality Seal

Published by Mountainblog on .

Ski touring specialist DYNAFIT has again affirmed is insistence on safety requirements, earning yet another TÜV quality certificate, this time for the classic binding Radical 2. As the leading provider of ski touring bindings, DYNAFIT saw its Radical 2 ST and FT bindings put to the test for months as part of the testing procedure. The models passed all safety release evaluations, and have thus achieved certification as safety ski bindings based on DIN ISO 13992 standards. But it wasn’t just the bindings that earned the quality seal. Also earning certification were the corresponding DYNAFIT Inserts that are integrated into the touring boots and function as the necessary mount for the frameless binding systems.

The TÜV testing procedure includes more than 40 specific laboratory tests, plus field testing over three days. It is considered the highest level of safety certification. This guarantees the touring binding’s release properties as appropriate for a descent-oriented binding. For DYNAFIT, the inventor and longtime pioneer of frameless binding systems, the certification is a significant step: Frameless binding systems are generally thought to be less reliable in safety release aspects. The frameless system however has undergone enormous continued development in recent years when it comes to technical safety. And now DYNAFIT offers four TÜV-certified models with release properties comparable to ski bindings. This shows how DYNAFIT is responding to the growing ski touring market.
In addition to the DYNAFIT Free Touring models Beast 14 and Beast 16, which already earned their TÜV seal in the last year, the models
RADICAL 2 ST and FT were developed with two aspects in mind: great comfort on the ascent due to the considerably lighter, rameless system, and achievement of the certification based on ISO standards. The rotating toe piece patented by DYNAFIT ensures the highest possible safety. It functions not only as a release mechanism but also to resist possible early release from lateral impacts. The toe piece guarantees a precise and optimally synchronized release mechanism of the toe piece and heel unit. Release values can be set between
4 and 10. The RADICAL FT, designed for descent-oriented backcountry skiers, allows a release value as high as 12. At 599 grams, the
RADICAL 2 ST is a trailblazer as one of the lightest bindings in its class.

In addition, the RADICAL 2 has an optimized stack height since a lower stack height ensures direct contact with the ski. In order to allow
the binding to accommodate today’s increasing fatter skis, it has also been equipped with an extra wide binding mount area. Comfort in stepping in and handling has also been significantly improved.

The frameless binding system, which was developed by DYNAFIT more than 30 years ago, is the core competency of ski touring brand
DYNAFIT . In addition to both RADICAL models, DYNAFIT offers nine other binding models in its product line to accommodate the needs
of every backcountry skier from performance racer to free rider. Four of the 11 products are TÜV certified.

The TÜV certification is also an advantage for so-called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partners of the binding brand: DYNAFIT also now manufactures for the brands Movement, Fischer, and Look with Rossignol and Dynastar. OEM partners offer DYNAFIT-made frameless bindings under their own label. Each of those has the added tagline, “engineered by DYNAFIT” directly visible on the product.

Successful TÜV testing of the boot insert affirms DYNAFIT’s position as a supplier of boot inserts for other ski touring boot brands. Touring boot brands Scarpa, Scott, Hagan, Roxa, Movement and Fischer integrate and put their trust in “DYNAFIT -Certified inserts.” That guarantees an optimally functioning boot-binding package with their use with all DYNAFIT bindings. With this step, DYNAFIT is continuing to expand its expertise as the leading system brand in the ski touring market.
