VAUDE – Comfort with safety

Published by Mountainblog on .

vaudeFollowing intensive research and development, the mountain sports professionals at VAUDE are presenting their first avalanche backpacks for the Winter Season 2014/2015. The tried-and-tested ABS® Twinbag-technology teams up with backpack competence from Germany. With a suspension system that offers truly flexible adjustment, the two models ABScond Tour and ABScond Flow set new standards for fit and comfort.

VAUDE is combining TÜV certified and field-tested ABS Twinbag Technology with decades of backpack expertise. The results: the first ABS backpack with a fully adjustable suspension system and back length on the market. The VAUDE patented F.L.A.S.H. NT suspension adjustment and an adjustable hipbelt enable unparalleled carrying comfort and an optimized fit. This is supported by the synergy mold contact back made from viscoelastic foam and an anatomical back panel that prevents the cartridge from pressing into your back. On tour the ABSCond is very versatile with variable ski and board attachment, expansion bellows, side zip access and an outer safety compartment. All your gear can be stowed without compromising access to your probe and shovel in an emergency.
Double the Safety

ABS® Twinbag technology offers the best protection from being buried by an avalanche and the highest statistical survival rate available today. (In 97% of all documented avalanche accidents with airbag, the people who used Twinbags were visible on the surface after the avalanche). The system enables safe and fast deployment in an emergency. The trigger can be optimally positioned on the left or right shoulder strap.

Backpack Product Manager Florian Schmid: “ABS was founded in 1985 and has the most experience with avalanche airbag systems, in addition, the system is established worldwide, certified by TÜV and well-recognized in the freeride scene. The final decision for a partnership with ABS wasn’t difficult to make. The company values quality and functionality just as much as VAUDE does, and delivers dependable Made in Germany technology. This makes it easy to collaborate on product development.

vaude 1Improved Carrying Comfort

When it came to development, special challenges were combining the high safety demands of TÜV and ABS with an adjustable suspension system for the first time. Shoulder straps, hip belts, buckles and the VAUDE patented F.L.A.S.H. NT adjustment mechanism must be able to withstand several times your body weight in an avalanche fall in order to keep the pack on your body. At the same time, maximal flexibility of the suspension system was also a goal. Because a backpack that optimally fits your height and stature can be worn on longer ascents and is significantly more comfortable and non-tiring

Durability

VAUDE’s longstanding expertise in backpack design is reflected in the high product quality and alpine functionality, as well as its many features. In addition, the mountain sports pros from Tettnang depend on Cordura’s extreme robustness. The primary material is a very abrasion resistant 500D Hard-Skin Cordura, that can withstand the impacts of ski edges and rock. Zips and zip pullers were chosen with a view to dependability and user friendliness in winter.

Flexibility

Zip volume expansion (ABScond Flow only), easy ski and snowboard attachment and expandable lid height (in the ABScond Tour) prove to be very practical on alpine endeavors. Naturally, all significant features for alpine backpacks are integrated in the ABScond packs. Comfortably padded shoulder straps, user-friendly ski attachment, helmet and ice tool attachment, lightweight hipbelt with zip pocket, hydration system access – the wearer can count on the tried and tested VAUDE backpack features.

The two models ABScond Flow and ABScond Tour can be used for ski, snowboard or snowshoeing. With sophisticated functional details and proven technology, they offer more comfort and highest safety standards on winter tours in the mountains and will be available starting in Autumn 2014 at mountain sports retailers.
