Bouldering World Cup
April 15th-16th, 2016

Published by Mountainblog on .

Top Bouldering athletes from around the world will open their chalk buckets and slip-on rubber shoes on Friday, April 15th. The competition in Meiringen, Switzerland is the first in a series of seven 2016 Bouldering World Cup events.
Petra Klingler fell just shy of the podium last season, but the Switzerland native will have the spotlight in Meiringen as she contests with seasoned competitor Shauna Coxsey and the young Megan Mascarenas. For the men, first-time champion Jongwon Chon will defend his title against runner-up Jan Hojer. Other strong boulderers to keep an eye on this year include reigning champion Akiyo Noguchi and teammate Miho Nonaka for the women, as well as the strong Nathaniel Coleman for the men. Before their feet leave the mat, be sure to review the current World Bouldering Rankings below and visit the dedicated Meiringen event page for a teaser video, start lists and event information.

Continuing A Legacy
This year, Meiringen expands its longstanding climbing tradition by becoming one of six cities to host an IFSC World Cup for the first time. The heavily anticipated competition will be held indoors on the east end of the village, close to the Meiringen climbing and bouldering gym. Located in the very centre of the Alps, Meiringen will be the perfect place to start the 2016 Sport Climbing season.

The prospective decision by the International Olympic
Committee in August adds to the pressure on each host to perform this year, but the IFSC World Cup Meiringen 2016 is set to not disappoint. In addition to the IFSC World Cup, the unique venue will feature, among others, several other sport climbing shows, music performances and the “Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.”
