Earth Day 2021

The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) has launched its first online fundraiser of the year to coincide with Earth Day (22nd April) and raise funds for vital conservation projects around the world.

The theme for this year’s Earth Day is ‘Restore our Earth’, which fits perfectly with EOCA’s recently launched 5-year strategy which has climate action at its heart, its new 2-year focus addressing the loss of biodiversity, as well as directly linking to the conservation projects it funds.  EOCA members have once again shown their support by donating products for sale or hosting events on their own websites, with 100% of money raised coming to EOCA and boosting the amount the association can use to support projects in 2021.

A number of companies have donated items such as shirts, jackets, bottles, insulated clothing, packs, sleeping bags and even a Tree Tent . They will be sold via Outdoor Gear For Good (OGFG), a community interest (non profit) company set up to collect donations of inventory and reuse, resell or recycle it, with all profits going to outdoor related charities, in this case EOCA.  Cumulus, Deuter, Lowe Alpine, Ortlieb, ORTOVOX, Osprey, Schöffel, Söllworld, Stanley, Tentsile and Trangoworld have all donated generously in this way, and products will be available on the OGFG UK eBay store from Monday 19th April.

There are further excitements in store from Klean Kanteen, which has produced and will be selling a limited number of exclusive bottles with a cover design by Italian artist Sabrina Gabrielli.  Polish brand LESOVIK is organising its own online event over the Earth Day weekend to encourage people to get outdoors and pick litter, as well as giving 10% of its web sales to EOCA from 15-25 April. KEEN, Mountain Equipment, Osprey, PAJAK, Stanley and VAUDE are all giving EOCA percentages of the sales on their websites on the day, over the weekend or week surrounding Earth Day – with PAJAK donating an extraordinary 40%!

Tanya Bascombe, Joint General Manager of EOCA said, “We are extremely proud that our members, despite the difficult year they have just come through and the issues that still lie ahead, are still incredibly supportive of EOCA, and, ultimately, our planet and climate which are facing extraordinary crises. ‘Restore our Earth’, the theme for this year’s Earth Day, is not only highly relevant to the work EOCA does, but absolutely vital if we, as a species, are to continue living on a healthy, vibrant planet.”
