La Sportiva and ISPO between sustainability and innovation

Published by Mountainblog on .

The Trentino-based company presents its second sustainability report and expands the apparel collection using eco-friendly fabrics.  The innovative ultra-technical G5 EVO boot debuts in the footwear collection.

2020 opens for La Sportiva, the Trentino based company, world leader in the outdoor footwear and clothing sector, in the name of  eco-sustainability with solutions, materials and certifications designed to minimize the environemental impact of its products.

At ISPO in Munich, La Sportiva reiterates respect for environmental issues with the disclosure of the new, sustainability report, which focuses on virtuous best practices towards its territory (Trentino), its community and also the renewed commitment to the international non-profit organization 1% For the Planet, EOCA (European Outdoor Conservation Alliance) and in the launch of eco-compatible products. “My family and I are proud of the growth we are experiencing, so much so that we have achieved an important expansion of the production area in our Valley – declares the CEO and President Lorenzo Delladio – which represents for us a community rather than just a territory.  Reducing CO2 emissions in the production plant, guaranteeing supply chain certification, thanks to the Bluesign system, and implementing virtuous behaviours such as the elimination of plastic from our offices and from the events we manage directly, are valuable projects that aim to make the company an agent of positive change with regards to our natural and social environment”
An important example of the sustainable approach is the new winter clothing line which sees a significant expansion of garments made totally or partially with fabrics and padding obtained from the reuse of recycled polyester, resulting from the re-use of plastic bottles.

Each jacket made with this solution uses approximately 35 recycled bottles, contributing to the protection of the plantet and the reduction of the use of water and energy in the production cycle, respectively -86% and -75% compared to the standard consumption generated in the creation of a standard jacket.  An absolute novelty for 2020  is the introduction of the Tech Stretch Pro Eco fabric used in the soft shell line, also made of 88% recycled polyester.
The use of organic cotton and Kapok fibres as well as the use of  Primaloft® Silver Eco™ padding and the new exclusive Idro Breath Bluesign® certified membrane with zero PFC content, represents a further decisive step towards a sustainable collection.

The Reign Jacket in Tech Stretch Pro and recycled fabric, the Marak Jacket with Polygiene organic, anti-bacterial treatment and the Crizzle jacket/pants suit in the waterproof and breathable Idro Breath membrane, represent the sustainable highlights of the Apparel collection, structured on the 3 macro product lines:  Climbing, Winter Mountain Running and Ski mountaineering.

The collection of technical ski mountaineering boots (skialp) is also renewed with a view to sustainability with the introduction of VEGA MAN and VEGA WOMAN, 4-buckle boots dedicated to free-rider ski mountaineers, with Grilamid BIO shells obtained from the seeds of castor oil. New aesthetics instead for Solar and Stellar, made of  Pebax® Rnew® Bio Based polymer also obtained from the use of castor oil.

Important news for the Footwear category too with the introduction of Zenit, a climbing shoe dedicated to newcomers to indoor climbing.  The upper stretch knit fabric is breathable and enveloping and ideal for those taking their first steps on indoor holds.
The new arrival for Winter Running instead is Jackal GTX, the winter version of the long awaited SS20 model, that uses the brand new Gore-Tex® Invisible Fit membrane laminated directly on the uppers for maximum flexibility and comfort.

But the news does not end here for the company that has made innovation in the world of mountaineering its mission for over 90 years of manufacturing history.  The G2 Evo and G5 Evo, technical boots for Himalayan expeditions, both with a double BOA® Fit closure System and Vibram Matterhorn sole, represent the maximum evolution of modern mountaineering.  G5 Evo in particular, introduces for the first time in the history of extreme hiking boots, the innovative GORE-TEX® Infinium™ Thermium™ insulating membrane that wraps around the shell and midsole for maximum insulation and thermal effects for mountaineers’ toes. An innovation nominated for the ISPO AWARDS and potential game changer, currently worn by the South Tyrolean mountaineer Tamara Lunger, the new 2020 La Sportiva total-look ambassador.

A year full of novelty for the Trentino brand that is constantly striving to provide the best products for mountain enthusiasts and with a strong orientation towards the environment and sustainability.

Innovation, passion, tradition, constant research. Since 1928.
