La Sportiva goes Green at ISPO 2019

Published by Mountainblog on .

The company’s commitment to sustainability continues with a new apparel line dedicated to skialp made from ECO-Recycled fabrics and ski mountaineering boots in Pebax Bio-Based. La Sportiva is also entering into the “1% For the Planet” organization.

La Sportiva, the Trentino company, world leader in the field of outdoor footwear and clothing, opens 2019 in the name of eco-sustainability with solutions, materials and certifications designed to minimize the environmental impact of their products and give an even stronger and tangible sign of corporate commitment to the environment.

At ISPO Munich, La Sportiva formalises their entry as a new member of the International Organization 1% For the Planet in which members contribute by allocating at least 1% of their annual turnover to environmental projects and causes. “It is a great achievement for our company – says CEO and President Lorenzo Delladiowhich has always paid the utmost attention to the environment in which it operates, as demonstrated by the ISO environmental certifications, the continuous reduction of CO2 emission in our production plant in the Dolomites in Val di Fiemme, the socio-environmental certification of the Bluesign chain, the numerous collaborations with environmental associations including EOCA (to which we have allocated 20% of the revenues of the last Black Friday) the recycling of at least 60% of the processing waste of the production phase and all the activities summarized in our CSR document. 1% For the Planet certifies that we are helping to protect the environment in which we live, and that we are working with other member companies to try and reverse the route towards global warming, a real threat of our times”.

The company’s commitment continues with new products, both in Apparel and Hardgoods , the heart of the FW19/20 collection, on show at ISPO.

The new Ski-Tour apparel line sees the launch of garments made entirely or partially from fabrics and padding obtained from the reuse of recycled polyester and certified by RePET®, resulting from the recycling of plastic bottles. The garments that bear the label “RECYCLED FABRIC & INSULATION” guarantee that:

  • Each petrochemical derivative has been replaced with fibres obtained from recycled polyester.

  • The garment helps reduce ground impact.

  • Durability and quality over time.

  • A production of lower quantities of CO2 (about 54% less thanks to the production of traditional fibres) in the production process of recycled polyester.

This is the case of products such as Zeal JKT, Inversion Primaloft Vest, Meridian Primaloft JKT, Phase Down JKT and Faster Primaloft JKT. It is no coincidence that there are many items that use Primaloft, the American brand that supplied La Sportiva with the innovative Primaloft® Silver Active Eco Insulation padding, which is also created using fibres obtained entirely from the recycling of plastic products. Base layers use Polygiene® Treatment, an odour resistant, anti-bacterial treatment that allow you to wear your garments much longer and thus reduces the hours and frequency of washing and therefore contributes to a lower environmental impact.

On the Hardgoods side, the collection of technical ski boots (skialp) is completed with Skorpius CR, a boot dedicated to advanced ski mountaineers with a reinforced carbon shell for powerful and safe skiing, triple compatibility with Tech, AT and Trab TR2 bindings and shell and cuff in the innovative and eco-compatible Pebax® Rnew® Bio-based material, a polymer obtained from castor oil plants. At the same time the company continues to invest in its “racing department” reaching the fifth edition of the famous race boot now under the name of STRATOS V (v as victory but also V as the Roman number five) further lightened (540 grams including the bootie) and already at the feet of the current world champion Michele Boscacci, who has just signed a new 5 year contract with the company.

Important news for the Footwear division too with the introduction of TX Top GTX, an approach shoe that is part of the famous Traverse X series with integrated gaiter and super gripping Vibram® Megagrip sole, the new born shoe for Winter Running Kaptiva GTX, a winter version of the long awaited SS19 model that uses the brand new Gore-Tex® Invisible Fit membrane, laminated directly onto the uppers for maximum flexibility and comfort, and Blizzard GTX: the first Trail Running shoe within the La Sportiva Mountain Running® collection with spikes integrated into the sole for safe running on snow and icy terrain.

“Save the best for last”: after 2 years of study and field testing at the feet of Simone Moro and Tamara Lunger , the OLYMPUS MONS CUBE makes its debut on the market, an updated edition of the most famous 8000 metres model on the market, now complete with highly technical contents like the double closure BOA® Fit System, the insulating Primaloft® Gold Aerogel insole and the dual compound Vibram® Morflex and Vibram® Litebase. The product is one of the most thermal available on the market today and represents the state of the art for mountaineering expeditions, enriched by the front insert for the ski mountaineering pin attachment that allows use with skis and is ideal as well for arctic crossings: such as tested by Moro and Lunger during the last expedition to Siberia in the Chersky Range, the coldest inhabited place on the Planet.

A year full of novelties for the Trentino brand, always looking for the best products for mountain enthusiasts, with a strong orientation towards the environment and sustainability.

Innovation, passion, tradition, constant research.
