As the Christmas shopping season begins, a number of outdoor brands are asking consumers to consider their purchases wisely over the coming Black Friday weekend. Members of the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) have come together to bring something good out of the over-indulgence traditionally associated with this time of year, offering ways of raising money to help fund vital conservation projects instead.
Seven EOCA members are either already running events, starting this week and over the ‘Green Friday’ weekend or even carrying on throughout December.
Gear Tips will be donating a percentage of membership sales over the weekend and Terra Nova will donate 5% of online sales for the whole month of November!
Gregory Packs, Nikwax Europe and Osprey Europe Ltd are offering customers a discount on all or specific items on their website and will then be donating some or all profits from the weekend to the association.
Meanwhile, deuter is donating a portion of online sales over the coming weekend to raise funds for a specific conservation project being managed through EOCA.
Finally Equip Outdoor Technologies, owner of Rab and Lowe Alpine is helping to prolong the life of outdoor gear whilst also supporting conservation by donating 25% of their European Service Centre sales from this Friday and for the whole month of December to EOCA.
TANYA KENRICK – GENERAL MANAGER EOCA
“We want to turn the manic consumerism of Black Friday into a force for good, where people can consider their purchases more responsibly and think about either prolonging the life of their outdoor gear, or choosing items which, when purchased are having a positive impact in protecting our precious wild places”.
