A number of runners wait impatiently for Friday 29 July, the day when on Piazza Walther square in Bolzano the starting pistol to the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace is fired at 8 pm. The extreme mountain run along the 121 km horseshoe shaped trail “Hufeisentour” with 7554 m altitude differential in the Sarentino Alps takes place in exactly 100 days.

The participants in the most extreme mountain run in Europe still have some time left to get ready for the great challenge. Certainly the extreme runners who take part in the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace already have completed several training kilometres. Those who start their training now or have started it recently probably registered for one of the two shorter courses. The Südtirol Ultra Skyrace has a length of 69 kilometres and an altitude differential of 3930 metres, the Südtirol Sky Marathon of 42.2 km and 2863 m. The Südtirol Sky Marathon is carried out for the first time this year. Its participants follow the race course of the Südtirol Skyrace until Sarentino, where they run through the finish.

Registrations for the renowned South Tyrolean extreme sports event are in full swing. Up to now about 150 female and male athletes have registered. They come from 13 different nations, which delights not only the organisers and the Tourism Association of Bolzano, but also Sportler and La Sportiva, one of the premium partners of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace. “Our goal not only is to stage an international perfectly organised sports event. We wish to convey to the athletes the beauty of our mountains in the Sarentino Alps with Bolzano, the quaint main town of South Tyrol, as the starting point of the race”, explains the chair of the OC, Josef Günther Mair from the newly founded ASV Südtirol Ultra Skyrace who is responsible of the organisation.

Who is still pondering about participation should hurry up. Until 30 April the start fee for the original distance (121 km) is 110 Euro. Participation in the Südtirol Skyrace (69 km) costs 70 Euro and in the Südtirol Sky Marathon (42,2 km) 40 Euro. Registrations can be entered at the website www.ultraskyrace.it.
