The Skyrunner® World Series is back in France for stage seven of the 2023 season – SkyRacer® du Mercantour. This Sunday, the 9th of July, skyrunners from around the world will tackle the SkyRace event in a bid to gain points towards the overall ranking.

SkyRacer® du Mercantour starts at 09:00 am CET on Sunday in the charming French town of Saint Martin Vésubie, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in Southeastern France.

The 30 km course with 2,100 meters of elevation gain begins with a 500 meter and km climb to La Colmiane. After a short downhill, athletes face a gruelling 9 km climb of 1,450 meters through the Millefonts valley towards the summit of Mont Pépoiri at 2,674 m. At the top are breathtaking views of the Mercantour massif, with peaks over 3000 m and the Mediterranean Sea on the other side. It’s then a long 12 km and 2,000 m descent back to Saint Martin Vésubie.

The Skyrunner® World Series has now passed the halfway point of the 2023 season and all athletes are fully focused on their position in the overall ranking and securing those all-important points.

As a SkyRace, different to a Premier SkyRace, less points shall be awarded to the top 20 male and females of the race. A breakdown of the scoring can be found on the Skyrunner® World Series website.

Ready to battle it out for overall ranking points are male athletes: Pascal Egli of Switzerland (team Dynafit); French runners Damien Humbert (team Inov8), Titouan Gallan (team Merrell) and Sebastian Poesy (team Brooks); Italian athlete Alex Oberbacher (team La Sportiva); Shoma Otagiri of Japan; and Jordi Alis of Spain (team FEEC).

The women’s field includes Martina Cumerlato of Italy (team Asics), Maria Christen of Switzerland (team Scott Running), Nadage Servant of France and Georgina Gabarro of Spain (team FEEC).

Prize money shall also be awarded equally to the top 10 males and females.

The top 10 will also qualify for the 2023 SkyMasters, the final race of the season. This is only as long as they complete a further 2 races of the season and the SkyMasters. More information on the rules can be found on the Skyrunner® World Series website.
