Ueli Steck

David Goettler and Ueli Steck arrived in Nepal a week ago. They will spend two week in the Everest Area to get used to the altitude. This is a very comfortable way to get ready for the expedition: climbing a new route in South face of Shishapangma (8043m). They plan to climb some smaller peaks in the Khumbu valley and then, head back to Kathmandu.

They will fly on April 17. to Lhasa in Tibet. It will take them 2- 3 days by Jeep and two more days by foot to get to basecamp of Shishapangma. The Goal of the expedition is to climb a new route on the Soutface.

If we are very lucky we will climb the soutface and then we want to descend to the northside. So it would be a traverse of mount Shishapangma as well and not only a new route. But this is a very ambitious plan thats for sur. But everybody needs a dream. And of course a dream without a plan is just a wish. We have a very good plan so we are just positive. We are getting climatized. David and myself having good fun. Yesterday we were doing a advanced run from Chukung to Island Peak (6189m.) A good day out 20 km and 1700 vertical meters. The next step will be to sleep two nights on island peak. We keep you updated.
