Along with the arrival of the first snowflakes, ORTOVOX has heralded in a new era of avalanche safety. The newly created, interactive SAFETY ACADEMY LAB website contains avalanche tutorials, interactive learning tools and a great deal of knowledge about avalanches, how they start and how to react when you are on tour. This unique project won the ISPO GOLD AWARD, the industry’s prize for the BEST MULTI-CHANNEL CAMPAIGN 2014/15.
BEING PREPARED IS THE GREATEST SAFETY PRECAUTION YOU CAN TAKE ON A TOUR!
If an avalanche comes down and emergency equipment is needed, something has already gone wrong beforehand. This is where ORTOVOX comes in. The avalanche safety experts are not just concerned with selling emergency equipment, but with the entire safety package. Apart from equipment, this also means GROUNDED KNOWLEDGE AND ELEMENTARY TRAINING IN RISK REDUCTION. The project was put into operation in collaboration with the Verband deutscher Berg- und Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide association), the Lawinenwarndienst Tirol (Tyrol Ava-lanche Warning Service), and the Bergwacht Bayern (Bavarian mountain rescue service).
EXPERTS ON CAMERA
An important feature of the SAFETY ACADEMY LAB is its series of video tutorials. Produced with PROFESSIONALS such as Europe’s most renowned avalanche experts Rudi Mair and Patrick Nairz of the Tyrol Avalanche Warning Service, as well as with experienced mountain rescuers, guides, freeriders and avalanche survivors, the videos deliver specialist knowledge simply, competently, understandably and with a very emotional edge. Apart from imposing avalanches, new videos show you all you need to know about the formation of avalanches, right up to instructions on the correct use of emergency equipment.
In the SAFETY ACADEMY LAB, ORTOVOX has created FOUR DIFFERENT WORLDS THAT PLAY OUT A TYPICAL DAY ON TOUR. The “AVALANCHE BASICS” section gives you the basics necessary to understand how an avalanche is formed. The “TOUR PREPARATION” section teaches visitors how to reduce risks before starting out. The “ON TOUR” section explains valuable basic behaviour rules, whereas the “EMERGENCY” section teaches you how to use your emergency equipment. Complex themes are explained by means of animation, and interactive questions ensure that you have understood all you have been taught. And to add even more motivation, from the be-ginning of January a contest will start in which ORTOVOX ABS backpacks and prizes from Marker, Völkl and Summit Club can be won.
Every year in the run-up to ISPO, the Outdoor industry’s best marketing campaign is selected. A top-class jury of international marketing experts judges the most revolutionary marketing campaign in seven categories. ORTOVOX’S SAFETY ACADEMY LAB ran away with the coveted MULTI-CHANNEL CATEGORY PRIZE. The award ceremony will take place at the ISPO during the Snow Ice & Rock Summit on 27 JANUARY, at 4 P.M. in HALL A6.
