A solution which delivers traction on ice and on hard snow routes, whilst maintaining the same performance on different terrain types even after long use. This solution was developed through a specific balance between the visco-elastic properties of rubber and the mechanical behaviour on the ground generated by the “profile” of the sole, comparable to the tread of the tire. The 100% rubber compound maintains flexibility at medium and lower temperatures, allowing the natural flexing of the foot during walking. Columbia was the first technical footwear company to deliver this new solution to consumers, offering it in multiple performance collections currently on the market. These products will be in the line for the AW1819 winter season including a new ankle boot with that features.
The Michelin and Columbia partnership is focused on technical footwear to help people face the difficult conditions of winter in safety. Superior grip, flexibility and abrasion resistance are enabled by Michelin’s soles made with ‘ice control’ solution, even in temperatures down to -30°C.

Men’s/Women’s Powderhouse Titanium Omni-Heat™ 3D OutDry™ Boot

Next dimension warmth, waterproof, seam-sealed construction and Titanium pinnacle materials, the Powderhouse Titanium Omni-Heat 3D OutDry is a premium performance boot featuring the most weatherproof winter-fighting technologies. Omni-Heat 3D uses an advanced reflective lining overlaid with soft vertically-oriented fibers to improve heat retention and deliver warm, durable comfort. Combined with 600g insulation, it’s protection for your feet in cold up to -65F-degree conditions. OutDry technology uses a one-piece patented construction process that creates a waterproof-breathable barrier that’s heat-bonded directly to the boot’s outer fabric, leaving no seams, no gaps, and no way for water to get in. Michelin Ice Control Technology in the outsole delivers superior ground control in snow and ice with no trade-off. Featuring perfect adherence and optimal flexibility, anti-slip 100% rubber combined with a specific tread design, firm grip to -30°C/-22°F and good abrasion resistance on and off the ice.

icebug logoIcebug with Michelin for winter rubber traction

For shifting autumn and winter conditions, ranging from wet city pavements to frosty gravel roads, providing proper unstudded traction can be a challenge. Especially since rubber tends to harden and get stiff as temperature drops. In a collaboration with MICHELIN Soles, Icebug now offers a winter adapted rubber outsole. Developed with the ‘ice control’ solution formulated to provide superior ground control in snow or ice. The tread pattern of the outsole is based on the legendary MICHELIN X-Ice Xi3 winter tire, with Cross Z Sipes that provide traction on ice and wide grooves for excellent water evacuation and flexibility. The MICHELIN Winter Compound (Wic) is an anti-slip compound that offers both reliable traction and good abrasion resistance in temperatures down to -30°C.
